Golf on a hill
In such a flat country, a real hill on a golf course feels like a small gift. De Hooge Rotterdamsche sits on a ridge about 25 metres high in the Rottemeren area near Bergschenhoek, and from the top you look out over the Rotterdam skyline. Not many Dutch courses can give you that.
This is an 18-hole parkland course, par 72, and the elevation is what makes it special. You play up and down, you read slopes that most Dutch golfers never see, and you learn to trust your distances when the ground is not flat. It is a proper challenge — the kind that makes a good round feel truly earned.
The club looks after golfers who want to grow. There is a driving range, a putting green, and a golf academy, so you can warm up and work on your game before you tee off. After the round, the restaurant and the bar terrace are a lovely place to sit with a coffee or a cold drink and enjoy the view over the water. If you prefer to save your legs on the hills, buggy hire is available too.
This course is most rewarding when you already have your handicap and some experience under your belt. The slopes and the length reward a player who can shape a shot and stay patient. Many golfers tell me the same thing about hilly courses — the first time they play one, they realise how much their technique on flat ground was hiding. That is exactly where a little coaching pays off.

Do I need a handicap to play at De Hooge Rotterdamsche?
Yes — a valid handicap up to 54 is required to play the course. Visitors are welcome every day, so as long as you have your handicap card, you can book a tee time and come and play.
