I often tell my students that the best place to fall in love with this game is a club that feels like a second home. Nieuwegeinse Golfclub in Houten is exactly that kind of place — where members know each other by name and every round feels like catching up with friends.
Founded in 1986, Nieuwegeinse Golfclub has built close to four decades of community life just a short drive from Utrecht. This is a members’ club in the truest sense: it has grown steadily into a place where golfers of all abilities find their footing together and keep coming back, season after season.
The club’s short course is a real gem for anyone finding their way into the game. It takes the pressure off and lets you focus on the fun — building confidence, working on your contact, and discovering why so many people get completely hooked once they start. It is ideal for juniors taking their first swings, for beginners who want to play a full hole without the daunting distance of a regulation course, and for improving players who want extra short-game practice without booking a full round.
The on-site academy adds another strong layer. Having coaching right where you play makes it easy to put new skills into practice immediately — which is exactly how learning should work. The ladies’ programme brings yet another dimension of welcome: a dedicated space for women to enjoy the game together, and I always think that is a lovely thing for any club to offer.
Beyond the course, the clubhouse restaurant and bar terrace give you somewhere to settle in after your round. Whether you are celebrating a personal best or simply enjoying a drink with playing partners in the afternoon sun, it rounds off the experience well. The club runs group events too, so whether your company is looking for a social outing or you want to take part in an organised format, there are options here.
Being NGF-affiliated means the club plays to proper Dutch federation standards, and with online booking available, arranging a visit is straightforward. Open year-round — always a welcome detail in the Netherlands, where a mild winter day is no reason to leave your clubs at home.
Houten sits just south of Utrecht, making Nieuwegeinse Golfclub genuinely convenient for anyone based in the city or moving through the province.

A welcoming club like this is the perfect place to start working properly on your game — or to shake off a habit you have been carrying around for a few too many rounds. When the atmosphere is friendly and unhurried, lessons click faster because you are relaxed and open. That is why I love pointing students toward clubs like this one: the environment does half the work for you.
If you are thinking about giving golf a real go, or if you already play and want to get more out of every round, I would love to help. We can focus on whatever matters most — getting started, sorting out your swing, or simply making the game feel easier and more enjoyable.
Reach out and let us set something up. A few sessions can completely change how a round feels, and Nieuwegeinse Golfclub gives you a warm, supportive place to put it all into practice.

A great choice. The club has a dedicated short course that lets new players build confidence without the pressure of a full-length hole, and an on-site academy where you can get coaching right where you play.
