Golf where the forest goes quiet

Hello, I’m Marina Romanik. There is a special feeling when a course is wrapped in old trees and the noise of the day just falls away. That is the golf I love most — you, the grass, and a little challenge to make you think. Limburg gives you exactly this kind of round, and I want to tell you about a spot that does it beautifully.

Heathland, forest and water

Golf & Country Club Crossmoor sits in Weert, in the green south of Limburg. Its 18 holes run in two loops through a historic forest-and-heathland landscape, framed by the Laurabos woods and the gentle, meandering Tungelroysche stream. Open holes and enclosed, tree-lined holes take turns, so the round keeps surprising you — a wide, breathing view on one hole, then a quiet corridor of trees on the next.

The water features are the part people remember. They sparkle, they make you plan your shot, and they turn a good decision into a real reward. Crossmoor plays as a challenging course, and that is a compliment: a smart, well-earned score here feels wonderful, because the land asked something of you.

There is plenty to grow into as well. The club has a short course to build confidence, a junior programme, a ladies programme, and its own golf academy — so this is a place where a beginner can start and an improving golfer can keep getting better. Golfers who love wooded, natural courses often say the same thing: the calm of the trees makes them swing more freely, and freedom is exactly what a golf swing wants.

Practising is easy too. There is a floodlit driving range — lovely for an evening session when the light drops — a putting green, and a short-game area for chipping and pitching. After the round, a restaurant, bar and terrace wait for you, plus lockers and showers, buggies and trolleys. Everything you need for a comfortable golf day.

A few practical notes, so you arrive ready: Crossmoor is open all year, is NGF-affiliated, and you can book your tee time online. A handicap is required to play, and visitors are warmly welcome. Green fees are mid-range — around €42 for 9 holes and €72 for 18.

Play it well, with a little help

A course with water in play and forest lining the fairways rewards a golfer who has a few dependable shots — a solid stance, good balance, and a short game you can trust around the greens. This is exactly what I love teaching.

I teach at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and at Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen, in Dutch, English, Ukrainian or Russian, for every age and level. Weert is a good drive away, but a few lessons travel with you to any course — the confidence you build on the range is the confidence you bring to Crossmoor’s tees.
