I’m Marina Romanik, a PGA golf instructor, and I love helping people fall for this game. Some courses make you want to play more, and the ones by the sea are at the top of my list. Golf among the dunes

Golfbaan De Groote Duinen sits in Ouddorp, on the bright Zuid-Holland coast. The course winds through the great dunes that give it its name, with wide open skies above and the smell of the sea on the breeze. It is an 18-hole, par-72 course, so you get a full, satisfying round with plenty of variety as you move from one dune-framed hole to the next.

The dunes setting is the real star here. Soft hills, sandy edges, and natural grasses shape each hole, and the wind adds a gentle challenge that makes every good shot feel earned. The atmosphere is relaxed and holiday-like — this is golf you enjoy slowly, taking in the scenery as much as the score. Because Ouddorp is about a 90-minute drive from Utrecht, many players turn a round here into a lovely day at the coast.

A valid handicap (GVB) is needed to play, and visitors usually come in with an introduction from a member, so the course keeps a calm, friendly feel. That makes it a wonderful goal to aim for: once you have your handicap and a few solid skills, a breezy round on the dunes is a real reward. Players who already hold a GVB and want a scenic, sea-air course will feel right at home here, and improving golfers will love testing their wind play.
