Small, happy steps
I am Marina Romanik, and I teach golf near Utrecht — in Dutch, English, Ukrainian or Russian, whatever makes you feel at home on the tee. My favourite thing is watching a nervous beginner take one clean swing and suddenly smile. Golf gives you a few quiet hours outside, with the grass and the sky and your own good progress. That is the game I love, and I want you to love it too.
Heathland golf in Brabant
Golfbaan de Swinkelsche sits in Someren, in the green heart of Noord-Brabant, and it has been growing golfers since 1981. This is a heathland course — think open, sandy ground, low heather, and that soft Brabant light that makes an early tee time feel special. There are 18 holes here, laid out over two loops, so you get real variety in one round.
The club is generous with everything that helps you play well. A driving range for warming up, a putting green, a short-game area, and practice bunkers — the exact places where scores really get better. There is also a short par-3 course, which I love, because it lets a newer golfer walk out and simply enjoy playing without the pressure of a full 18. And there is a proper golf academy on site, so the path from your first lesson to your first full round is short and friendly.
After golf, the clubhouse restaurant, bar and terrace are waiting. Many golfers tell me the same thing about clubs like this one — the round was good, but the coffee and the talk on the terrace afterwards is what they remember. Someren has that relaxed, welcoming Brabant feeling, and it shows in how the place treats visitors.
De Swinkelsche is affiliated with the NGF, so to play the 18-hole course you bring your GVB or handicap card and book your tee time online in advance. Buggies and trolleys are there to hire, and the club stays open all year — so a bright winter morning here can be just as lovely as a soft summer evening.

A course with this much space and character is more fun when your swing feels ready. That is where I come in. Do I need a handicap or GVB card to play at De Swinkelsche?
Yes. De Swinkelsche is NGF-affiliated and requires a valid GVB proficiency certificate or handicap registration to play the 18-hole course. Visitors are very welcome — just bring your NGF card and book your tee time online in advance.
