Golfbaan Sloten sits on Sloterweg, on the western edge of Amsterdam, and it is a lovely surprise so close to the city. This is parkland golf: soft fairways lined with mature trees and little strips of water, the kind of calm green space you do not expect a few minutes from busy streets. Nine holes, gentle and walkable, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or an early morning start.

A highlight is how much the course gives you for so little. A 9-hole green fee starts at only €17 — honestly, that is wonderful value for real golf in the Amsterdam area. And it is open the whole year, so even in the quieter winter weeks you can play or sharpen your swing.

The practice side is a real strength. There is a covered driving range, which means you keep hitting balls when the Dutch rain arrives (and it does arrive). There is a golf academy right on site, plus a restaurant with a bar and terrace — a nice spot to sit after your round and talk about that one putt that dropped.

To play the course itself you will want a little golf under your belt — a handicap or GVB — and the academy is exactly where you build it. This makes Sloten a friendly place to grow: learn on the range and with lessons, then step onto the nine holes when you feel ready. The club is NGF-affiliated, and there is a ladies program too, which I always love to see — golf should feel welcoming for women.
