Golfclub De Pan (Bosch en Duin)

Golfclub De Pan

Heathland golf is something else

I always smile when a student tells me they played De Pan for the first time. You can see it on their face — that look of someone who just discovered what golf can feel like when the surroundings stop you mid-swing. For me, heathland golf is where the sport feels most like itself. Natural, quiet, and a little bit wild in the best possible way.

A course you will not forget

Golfclub De Pan sits in the heart of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, tucked into the wooded heathland near Bosch en Duin — one of the most beautiful stretches of nature in the whole of the Netherlands. The Heuvelrug is a long ridge of sandy forest, purple heath, and birch and pine woodland, and De Pan uses every bit of it.

What sets a heathland course apart is that the landscape does the design work. The fairways roll through open stretches of heather, then narrow between stands of tall trees, then open up again to a view that makes you forget your scorecard. There are no artificial water features competing for your attention. It is golf as nature intended.

De Pan is one of those courses where every hole feels like its own small adventure. The terrain rises and falls gently, so each shot asks a slightly different question. Wind matters here — it always does on heathland — and that adds a layer of skill and satisfaction that a flat parkland course simply cannot offer. When you hit a good approach and watch the ball track toward the flag through the crisp air, it feels earned.

The course is a private club, which means it is kept in outstanding condition and plays with a pace and calm that is hard to find elsewhere. The atmosphere is focused but friendly. This is a place where serious golfers come to enjoy the game at its best.

Best for: golfers who want to step up their game on a course that rewards patience, course management, and clean ball striking. Also wonderful for anyone who loves walking through exceptional Dutch nature and experiencing golf in a setting that feels completely different from the typical city-edge course.

Good golf starts before the first tee

A course like De Pan has a way of showing you where your game really is. That is not a bad thing — it is a wonderful thing. When the terrain challenges you and the conditions change, every part of your game gets a turn on stage.

That is exactly where a lesson or two makes a real difference. When I work with you on the range and on the course, we focus on the shots that actually come up in your rounds — reading a sidehill lie, controlling your distance in the wind, choosing the right club when the hole bends through the trees. The goal is always the same: give you more confidence, more tools, and more enjoyment every time you play.

If you have been thinking about playing De Pan — or if you already have a round booked — come and hit some balls with me first. A session at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht or Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen is a great way to prepare. Whether you are playing here for the first time or working to lower your score on a course you love, I would be glad to help.
