Golfclub Groene Ster

Golf made simple, golf made fun

Hi, I’m Marina Romanik, a PGA-certified golf instructor based in Utrecht. I love helping golfers of every age and level discover how rewarding this game can be. Whether you are picking up a club for the first time or chasing a lower handicap, my goal is the same: to make your golf clearer, calmer and a lot more fun. I teach in Dutch, English, Ukrainian and Russian, so everyone feels at home on the practice tee.

Parkland golf in Friesland

Golfclub Groene Ster sits in Leeuwarden, in the heart of Friesland, tucked inside the leafy Groene Ster nature reserve on the edge of the city. Designed by Gerard Jol and opened in 1988, it is a true 18-hole parkland course — par 72, stretching to 6,188 metres — with real championship character. With a course rating of 69.8 and a slope of 142 off the full tees, it asks for thoughtful, accurate golf.

Water is the course’s signature. Ditches and ponds touch almost every hole, so good positioning matters as much as raw distance. The two loops give the round great variety, and the back nine is the bigger test of the two — hole 10 carries stroke-index 1, where the course really shows its teeth. Played among the trees and quiet green spaces of the reserve, it is a wonderful place to spend a full day outdoors.

It is no surprise the course is well loved: golfers rate it 8.0 on LeadingCourses and 4.6 on Hole19, and it was named the #2 course in Friesland in the 2026 Golfers’ Choice awards.

The practice facilities are excellent too — a covered driving range, a putting green, a short-game area and practice bunkers, plus an on-site academy. That makes Groene Ster a great place not just to play, but to grow your game. A valid handicap (GVB) is required, so it is best suited to golfers who already have their card or are working towards it. If that is your next goal, this is exactly the kind of course that makes the journey worth it.

Play it with confidence

A course like Groene Ster rewards good ball-striking and smart course management — and that is where a few lessons make all the difference. When you can shape a shot, control your distance and stay calm around the water, a demanding round turns into a thoroughly enjoyable one.

I teach at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and at Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen, and I would love to help you get ready for your next round, wherever you play. Together we will sharpen the parts of your game that matter most and build the confidence to enjoy every hole.

Good to know

Do I need a handicap to play at Golfclub Groene Ster?

How much is a green fee?

An 18-hole round is €70. Prices can vary by day and season, so it is worth checking the club's website or calling ahead to confirm the latest rates.
