Where the forest meets De Meinweg

De Herkenbosche is an 18-hole woodland course in Herkenbosch, in the green south of Limburg. It plays as two nine-hole loops to a par of 72, winding through forest right on the edge of De Meinweg National Park. The club describes a terraced landscape of forest, heathland, peat bogs and stream valleys — the kind of setting where the walk between shots is half the pleasure.

Golfers rate it warmly. On LeadingCourses it scores 8.4 out of 10 from 833 ratings, and on Hole19 it holds 4.7 out of 5 across 142 ratings. In the Golfers’ Choice 2026 awards it was named number one in Limburg, and number 26 in the whole of the Netherlands.

So who will love it here? GVB holders of every level who want a scenic round among the trees. Newer players are welcome too. The club runs a full golf academy, a dedicated junior programme, and its own practice course, so there is a clear path from first lessons all the way to the main eighteen.

De Herkenbosche is an introduction club, so a current member brings or introduces a guest — call +31 (0)475-529529 or email the club to arrange it. A valid GVB, the Dutch golf card, is needed for the main course, and you can book your tee time online. A round of 18 holes costs €90, and because the course runs as two loops of nine, a nine-hole round is possible too — ask the club for the current rate.

For practice there is a covered, floodlit driving range, a putting green, practice bunkers and a chipping area, plus a pro shop and a restaurant with a terrace for afterwards.

A swing the trees reward

Woodland golf asks for placement over power. The trees frame every fairway, so a straight, repeatable strike scores far better than raw distance here. That controlled, well-placed swing is exactly the part of the game I most enjoy teaching — groove it first, and this pretty forest course in Limburg becomes a real joy to play.
