Practice makes the difference

I am Marina Romanik, and if you ask me where good golf really begins, I will always say the same thing: at the practice ground, not the first tee. That is why a course with a proper range makes me happy. A place where you can warm up, hit a few balls, roll some putts, then walk out and play — that is how golf becomes easy and fun.

A parkland friend near Utrecht

Golfclub Hoogland Amersfoort sits in the green edge of Hoogland, just north of Amersfoort and only about twenty minutes from Utrecht. The club has been here since 1936, so this is not a new place trying to find itself — it is a course with roots, quietly loved by the golfers of the region for a long time.

It is a nine-hole parkland course, which is a lovely thing for many golfers. Parkland means soft grass, trees, and calm — a gentle, welcoming kind of golf, not a wild seaside test. Nine holes is also perfect when you do not have a whole day. You can play a relaxed round, enjoy the trees and the open sky, and still be home for dinner. And when you want more, you simply go round again.

A highlight is the practice side. The driving range is covered, so a little Dutch rain never stops your session — you keep swinging, dry and happy. There is a putting green, a short-game area, and practice bunkers, which is honestly everything you need to build a real game. Add a golf academy on site, and you have a place made for learning, not only for playing. For beginners, juniors, and families this matters so much. Small steps, in a friendly place — that is how confidence grows.

The club welcomes juniors with their own program, has a ladies program too, and organises group events. So whoever you are — a child holding a club for the first time, a mum trying something new, a group of friends laughing through nine holes — you will feel at home. After your round there is a restaurant, a bar, and a terrace, where a nine-hole green fee of around €30 turns into a whole warm afternoon.

If you are just starting, this is a kind place to start. If you are getting better, the practice ground here will reward every visit.
