Review by Marina Romanik
Hi, I’m Marina Romanik, a PGA-certified golf instructor based in Utrecht. I love helping people of every age and level fall for this game — beginners taking their very first swing, juniors full of energy, and players who simply want to get better. I teach in Dutch, English, Ukrainian and Russian, so everyone feels at home on the course with me.
Golfclub Papendal sits in the hilly, forested landscape of the southern Veluwezoom, tucked between Arnhem, Oosterbeek and Ede. It’s an 18-hole woodland course, and the setting is one of its great joys. Tall trees frame the fairways, the ground rolls gently with the natural hills, and from the terrace you look out over the surrounding forest.
What makes a round here special is the wildlife. Papendal is home to foxes, badgers, kestrels, woodpeckers and deer, so a quiet morning walk can feel as much like a nature trip as a game of golf. The club has welcomed players since 1981 and is part of the NGF, with visitors warm to play after an introduction.
Beyond the 18 holes, there’s plenty to help your game grow: a driving range, a putting green, and a golf academy on site. With a friendly restaurant, bar and terrace, it’s an easy place to relax after your round too. Buggies and trolleys are available, so the hills never have to slow you down.
Because Papendal is beginner-friendly and welcomes juniors with a dedicated junior program, it’s a lovely place to learn. Whether you’re new to golf, helping a child start out, or working to lower your score, the calm woodland setting makes practice a pleasure.

A beautiful course like this is even more fun when your swing feels easy and your shots go where you want them. That’s where a few lessons make all the difference.
Wherever you play, I’d love to help you improve. A handful of friendly lessons can smooth out your swing, sharpen your short game, and give you the confidence to enjoy every hole. I teach beginners, juniors, ladies, and players who simply want more from their game — always in a relaxed, upbeat way.
Ready to take your golf to the next level? Book a lesson with me, Marina Romanik, and let’s make your time on the course even more rewarding. I can’t wait to help you play your best.
Yes, Papendal requires a valid handicap/GVB card. Visitors are welcome, but you need to be introduced by an NGF member before your first visit. The club is NGF-affiliated, so your Dutch handicap card is fully accepted.
Green fees are in the mid-range (€€). For the current rates please check the club's website at edesegcpapendal.nl or call 026-482 1985 — prices can vary by day and season.
Yes! Golfclub Papendal offers online tee-time booking through its website, so you can pick your preferred date and time without having to call.
Absolutely. The course is beginner-friendly and has a dedicated junior programme. The on-site golf academy and driving range make it an ideal place to start or develop your game in a relaxed, woodland setting.
The club is at Papendallaan 22, 6816 VD Arnhem, in the forested Veluwezoom near Arnhem, Oosterbeek and Ede — about 55 minutes by car from Utrecht. Buggies and trolleys are available on site, so the hilly terrain is no obstacle.
Marina teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen, not on-site at Papendal. A few lessons with her are a great way to prepare for a rewarding round here — you can book directly on this website.
