Golfclub St. Nicolaasga sits in Legemeer, in the heart of Friesland — a province of wide skies, water, and quiet green fields. The club takes its name from the nearby village of Sint Nicolaasga, but the course itself lies out in the open Friese countryside, and that space is the whole charm. Eighteen holes of gentle parkland golf, framed by trees and grass, with room to breathe on every fairway.

It is rated as an easy course, and I mean that as a compliment. Easy does not mean boring. It means you can play a full round without feeling punished for every small mistake — which is the fastest way to fall in love with golf. Many golfers who are just starting tell me the same thing: they play once on a friendly, forgiving course and suddenly they want to come back. That is what a place like this gives you.

The best part for visitors is that it is pay-and-play. No handicap card, no GVB, no membership. You show up, you play. An 18-hole round costs €70, and after your game there is a restaurant waiting where you can sit, have something warm, and talk about that one shot that came off perfectly. There is also a putting green to warm up your feel on the greens before you start — a small thing that saves you strokes.
