Some rounds feel like a walk in the forest
I love a golf course where the trees do half the work of calming you down. You arrive a little busy, a little in your head, and by the second hole the tall pines have quieted everything. This is one of those places. My name is Marina Romanik, I teach golf near Utrecht, and courses like this remind me why I fell for the game.
Nine holes in the pines
Golfclub Veluwse sits in Hoog Soeren, tucked deep in the Veluwe woodland of Gelderland — a fine stretches of forest in the country. It is a 9-hole course, and honestly, that is part of its charm. Nine holes among the tall trees is a lovely, unhurried round: enough golf to test you, short enough to play after lunch or before dinner without rushing.
The setting is the star here. Fairways wind between mature woodland, so every shot has a frame of green around it. There is even a little wooden shelter out on the course to pause under if the weather turns — the kind of small, human detail that makes a place feel loved. You play here for the peace as much as the score.
For a golfer who is still building confidence, a wooded 9-hole course is a friendly teacher. The holes ask you to aim, to think about where your ball lands, and to enjoy the walk between shots. And there is more than the course itself: a driving range to warm up, a pro shop, and a full academy on site.
