Par-3 golf, pure fun

Golfclub Westland sits on the Juliana Sportpark in ’s-Gravenzande, laid out across what were once the football pitches of FC ’s-Gravenzande. It is a compact, clever course: 9 holes, par 27, packed into a tidy two-hectare site. Every hole is a par-3, so the whole round stays short, light, and sociable.

Do not let “small” fool you, though. The greens are well guarded by bunkers and water hazards, so each hole asks for a precise, well-aimed shot. That is the beauty of a par-3 layout — you face the most important shot in golf, the approach to the green, again and again. Sink a few good ones here and you will carry that confidence to every bigger course you play.

The setting is relaxed and sunny, with a clubhouse, a warm terrace, and a bar where you can enjoy a drink after your round. There is a covered driving range, so you can warm up in any weather, plus a putting green to sharpen your touch. Buggies and clubs are available to rent, which makes it wonderfully easy to just show up and play.

Best of all, Golfclub Westland is pay-and-play. You do not need a handicap or a GVB — book a tee time online, arrive, and play. At around €15 for 9 holes, it is one of the friendliest-priced rounds in South Holland.

Best for beginners and juniors

This is a lovely place to begin. Because every hole is reachable with a single good shot, beginners score real pars and learn fast, while juniors never feel overwhelmed. Rounds are short and fun, so children stay excited from the first tee to the last. Improving players love it too — it is the perfect place to drill your approach shots and your putting without spending a whole afternoon. And for expats finding their feet in the Netherlands, an easy, sociable par-3 is a warm welcome into Dutch golf.
