A quiet course with character

Golfpark Spandersbosch sits inside the Goois Natuurreservaat, the Gooi Nature Reserve, tucked between Bussum and Hilversum. This is real woodland golf. Tall trees line the fairways, the air smells of forest, and the whole place feels calm and green.

It is an 18-hole course with a par of 64, laid out in two loops. That lower par tells you something important: this course asks for your head and your hands, not your muscles. With a course rating of 65.2 and a slope of 130, it rewards a straight ball and a tidy short game far more than a big drive. Honestly, this is why I love a course like this for learning. You cannot bully it. You have to play smart, and smart golf is teachable golf.

Many players tell me the same story — they come from wide, open courses where they just swing hard, and a tree-lined layout suddenly asks new questions. Where do I aim? How do I keep the ball in play? Small skills, small choices. Small steps win here.

For a course this welcoming, that is good news for beginners. There is a full golf academy on site, a floodlit driving range so you can practise even on dark winter evenings, and a pro shop for anything you forgot. The club runs junior programmes and ladies programmes too, so new golfers and young golfers are genuinely at home. A 9-hole round starts around €30, which is a friendly price for an afternoon in such a beautiful setting.

When the round is done, the clubhouse has a restaurant, a bar and a terrace — a lovely spot to sit, look out over the reserve, and talk about that one putt that finally dropped. Buggy and trolley hire make the walk easy for everyone.
